2020 has a been a struggle for many entrepreneurs and small business owners. 

Even our most successful members who normally do not struggle to get things implemented or get BIG STUFF done for their business have been reaching out and expressing a lack of focus. 

Some of this is caused by the constantly changing rules the politicians are imposing upon us. 

Depending upon your market or niche, you have faced a parade of rules, lockdowns and limitations on capacity. It’s been harder to stay focused on a plan, or even create a plan. These rules are on your mind 24/7. Because they are out of your hands, it has become a real drag and distraction for many.

But even under ideal conditions, many business owners struggle with getting the BIG stuff done for their business. 


Often as business owners and entrepreneurs we are responsible for doing one thing that is very hard to do. 

What is it?

Holding ourselves accountable. 

We have the best of intentions in doing a project, finishing a new marketing campaign, creating a new service. 

But, it’s easy to say I’ll do it tomorrow. Weather is nice today, I’m going golfing. I’ll get to it next week.

Next quarter.

Next thing you know, it’s a year later and you’re still in the same place. 

Holding yourself accountable is tough.

For many it’s near impossible. 

Deadlines get missed. 

The companies and entrepreneurs who consistently outperform their peers hold themselves more accountable, often by having someone to help hold them accountable.

This type of arrangement is very helpful, you don’t want to show up to an accountability session with a peer or coach and not have something that you agreed to do done. 

Yesterday, as I was interviewing John Carlton, he brought up the “gun to the head” analogy. 

For many copywriters, they need a deadline to get the copy DONE and out. The A-list copywriters do a ton of research, they then let the research they do marinate in their mind, and then copy needs to come to life. Even the A-list copywriters need a deadline in order for the pen to hit the paper or fingers to hit a keyboard. 

When that deadline approaches, ACTION happens. A media buy deadline will not move, the copy MUST be done, no exceptions. 

The same with all aspects of your business. 

Deadlines make things happen. Having an accountability partner can make things happen.
