De-Randomizing Successful Achievement

Can there be a Renegade Millionaire System? If you've read the now-classic business book E-MYTH by Michael Gerber, you are familiar with the premise of a BUSINESS system—and hardly any business owner would refute the need for such a thing.

My private client Richard James, CEO of Your Practice Mastered (TheRichardJames.com), says it this way: Your business should run on systems; you and your staff should operate the systems.

But the idea of a personal behavioral system strikes many as odd. Its opposite is most people’s default: random acts and reactions. High achievers actively, deliberately manage themselves just as they manage their successful enterprises.

Their secret to peak performance is the reduction of randomness.

And what predominately distinguishes wealthy achievers from the masses, generally and in any particular type of enterprise, are:

(1) The different way they consistently think
(2) More importantly, the different ways they consistently behave.

Wealth, success, and achievement are mirrors reflecting thought and behavior. Therefore, if you can identify the key thoughts held and key behaviors adhered to by exceptionally successful individuals, you can assemble them into a system.

…which is exactly what I did—initially for myself, then later organized for others.

I relied on four sources:

  • Observation and in-depth study of over 500 selected individuals, chosen for their improbable, norm-defying, creative entrepreneurial success, historical and contemporary
  • ​Personal experience and trial and error
  • ​My self-made good fortune of working intimately with well over 200 from-scratch millionaire and multi-millionaire entrepreneurs as they either started or reinvented and grew their businesses
  • ​Careful verification, confirming that what I identified as a principle or strategy was not a "freak" oddity of just one such person, but a shared approach

From these came very specific Things To Do (NOT just Things To Think)—with yourself and with your business—components of a system.

These PERSONAL behaviors are used in concert with business behaviors, some discussed last month, like deliberate violation of industry norms. In all of it, there is the simple truth that most people accomplish little because they are not absolutely, completely clear, in exacting detail, about what they are setting out to accomplish, leaving themselves open to reactionary randomness.

The Renegade Millionaire is, above all else, extremely hard to distract. He also tends to HATE FAILURE of achieving his set objectives for each hour, day, week, month, activity, anything meant to move a needle or push a ball forward, and he reacts quite badly to anyone or anything interfering with that. He lives a version of Lombardi's "Show me a 'good' loser, and I'll show you somebody who is a loser a lot."
